Recovery Café featured in National Documentary

Posted on October 7, 2016

Recovery Café is proud to partner with the White House, Macklemore, and MTV for “Prescription for Change: Ending America’s Opioid Crisis,” a new documentary film that debuts on Tuesday, October 11th, at 9PM on MTV. We encourage you to check it out.

You might wonder how this collaboration came to be. On February 9th 2015 we were honored to have both Macklemore and Michael Botticelli, the Director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy to visit Recovery Café.

It was a thrill to receive this letter after their visit:

Later, when we were contact by Director Botticelli’s office with a request to help MTV with a film about Opiate Addiction, we were happy to be of assistance. Here is Macklemore and Recovery Café’s Development Officer Ashley Dykstra, who coordinated the MTV filming at Recovery Café.

Like Director Botticelli, we believe that Recovery Café’s innovative recovery community model is powerful in helping individuals establish a foundation in recovery, and build on that foundation to become active citizens again. We feel fortunate to see the transformative results in the lives of the people we serve and want to share it as much as we can.

To that end, we created the Recovery Café Network to teach other communities how to replicate this model of hope, healing and life transformation. This aspiration is reflected in our Founder Killian Noe’s book, Descent into Love:

“Our hope and deepest desire is that the Recovery Café model will help transform the larger mental health and criminal justice systems and that longer-term, healing community will become the new normal in how we treat those suffering from addiction and other mental health conditions in our country”

If you are interested in starting a Recovery Café in your community, we invite you to join Recovery Café Network. You can learn more about sharing our model here. If you are local or plan to visit Seattle in the near future, we encourage you to attend a Coffee Hour or a “Come See” day at our Café to learn more about how you can bring this healing work to your community.
